At Heartbeat Medical , we build a platform that enables healthcare providers to collect and analyze patients’ pre- and post-treatment input, empowering them to improve care based on the most important data point there is — each individual’s health-related quality of life.
Our product, heartbeat OS , is developed in close collaboration with medical professionals to serve the needs of multiple user groups:
Patients : surveys and recommendations;
Clinicians : task management and analytics tools;
Administrative personnel at hospitals and insurance companies : reporting and data visualization features;
Internal teams : set up and maintain customers and their care pathways on our platform
…all within a fully GDPR-compliant infrastructure.
Founded in 2014, Heartbeat Medical is Germany’s leading provider of digital Patient-Reported Outcomes (PROs) and Value-Based Healthcare (VBHC). Leading hospitals, more than 60 health insurers, and regulators trust our platform and share our vision: that Patient-Reported Outcomes should guide healthcare decisions — enabling better outcomes, greater transparency, and true patient centricity. Our work currently spans orthopedics, childbirth, malnutrition, and dermatology, with plans to grow further.
As a UX/UI Designer at Heartbeat, you’ll work across diverse sub-services, collaborating with engineers, product managers, Sales and Newbiz team, and customers. You will shape both the visual and functional aspects of our platform — transforming complex challenges into clear, effective solutions.
You will join a multidisciplinary team of engineers, data scientists, operations, and commercial experts, all dedicated to delivering solutions across multiple medical areas and use cases.
Location: Berlin
Type: part-time (20-32 hours/week)
Salary: EUR (based on relevant experience)
Research:Partner with product managers to research how users interact with Heartbeat’s system, uncover pain points, and validate insights through testing and interviews (German required). Collaborate with Sales and NewBiz team to analyze market trends, competitor offerings, and identify new business opportunities from the customer pool.
Turn user needs into features:Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate research insights into functional product enhancements which simplify complex workflows and improve usability.
Act quickly, stay strategic:Be comfortable choosing minimal but viable solutions over perfect ones — you know which “good enough” truly moves the needle. You prioritize impact over perfection, understanding the ideal vision while delivering high-value, incremental improvements that solve the most pressing pain points first.
Design & QA testing:In our company, the product team is responsible for quality assurance. You will conduct design reviews and full-cycle functional testing in collaboration with product managers to ensure feature quality, usability consistency, and alignment with both user and business requirements.
Maintain and evolve Heartbeat’s design system:Ensure the design system remains scalable, consistent, and aligned with evolving product requirements.
We’re looking for a UX/UI Designer (d/f/m) who thrives in a fast-moving environment with limited resources. You enjoy the challenge of turning constraints into creativity — finding elegant, pragmatic solutions that move us forward today while staying aligned with the long-term vision. You move quickly from concept to delivery and find energy in solving complex problems with wit, focus, and adaptability.
Experience:
6+ years of UX/UI experience designing for web-based applications or platforms
Proven experience working with cross-functional teams (Product, Engineering, Marketing) and managing complex stakeholder environments
Strong ability to navigate non-linear product development: seeing the “100% vision” but consistently delivering the essential 20% that creates maximum value under constraints
Experience in building, maintaining, and scaling design systems for multiple user groups
A portfolio that clearly tells the story—from big conceptual ideas to lean first versions. Shows 0→1 projects, smart trade-offs, and iterative improvements under limited resources. Demonstrates structured thinking, prioritization, and the ability to untangle complexity
Experience in SaaS, MedTech, or HealthTech is a strong plus
Expert-level proficiency in Figma, including advanced component structures and prototyping (low → high fidelity)
Strong experience with usability testing, research, and hypothesis-driven design
Solid understanding of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, React) and effective collaboration with engineering teams
Excellent communication skills in German and English (B2 or equivalent); confident in presenting, facilitating, and aligning with stakeholders
Competitive compensation package
A permanent contract
30 days of vacation leave (based on a 5-day-week)
Flexible and family-friendly working hours and policies
