Software Engineer, Financial Accounting

Job Description

The Financial Accounting team is responsible for generating and delivering all accounting entries produced by the Pismo platform to our clients through event‑driven architecture.

Every financial movement — such as purchases, withdrawals, interest accruals, fees, and adjustments — must be accurately translated into accounting entries based on each client’s specific configuration and accounting rules.

The squad’s mission is to ensure that the platform is fully prepared for all financial events, supports highly flexible and configurable accounting scripts, and scales reliably as transaction volume and client complexity grow. This role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of financial systems, distributed architectures, and high‑throughput platforms.

WhatYou’llDo

• Design, develop, andmaintainbackend services usingGolang or Java, following clean code principles and solid software engineering practices.
• Build and evolveevent‑driven and microservices‑based architecturesthat handle financial movements, accounting entries, and lifecycle events with high reliability.
• Ensuredata accuracy, idempotency, and consistencyacross distributed systems that process financial and accounting information.
• Collaborate closely with product, accounting, and engineering teams to translatefinancial and accounting requirementsinto robust technical solutions.
• Work withAWS servicessuch as SQS, SNS, DynamoDB, S3, andEventBridgeto process andpersistfinancial events and state.
• UseTerraformto provision,maintain, and evolve cloud infrastructure with a focus on stability, security, and auditability.
• Implementunit, integration, and end‑to‑end tests, ensuring correctness of financial calculations and system behavior.
• Monitor system health and financial flows using observability practices (metrics, logs, alerts, and tracing).
• Participate incode reviews, contributing to shared ownership, code quality, and knowledge dissemination.
• Contribute toarchitectural discussions, helping improve scalability, resilience, and maintainability of financial systems.
• Support incident analysis and root‑cause investigations, especially those related to financial discrepancies or accounting impacts.

This is a remoteposition. A remote position does not require job dutiesbeperformed within proximity of a Visa office location. Remotepositions maybe requiredto be present at a Visa office with scheduled notice.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• Be based in Brazil.
• Proficiency in English at B1 level or above (Intermediate).
• Bachelor's degree, OR 3+ years of relevant work experience
• 2+ years of experience as a Software Engineer.
• Proficiency in Java / Groovy or JVM-based languages, with ability to adapt to other languages such as Golang.
• Previous experience with Git or other version control system
• Knowledge in debugging skills across distributed systems.
• Previous contact with Terraform and CI/CD tools such as Argo, Jenkins, and Codefresh, understanding their integrations.
• Knowledge of relational databases and strategies for non-relational data stores, including effective schema and data modeling.
• Knowledge in AWS or other clouds, applying performance, cost, and reliability best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Financial Systems, preferably involving Accounting, Settlement, Reconciliation, or Ledger‑based platforms.
• Solid understanding of financial data modeling, including balances, transactions, postings, and adjustments.
• Conducts thorough and high‑quality code reviews with focus on correctness, maintainability, and cross‑domain impact.
• Writes and validates unit, integration, performance, and end‑to‑end tests, with emphasis on data integrity.
• Experience documenting APIs and flows using Swagger, diagrams, and technical documentation, supporting internal and external consumers.
• Provides guidance on architecture, standards, and engineering best practices.
• Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.
• Identifies and resolves issues in distributed systems, improving stability and data consistency.
