About this Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented and internationally minded Accounting & Planning professional. In this role, you will be deeply involved in accounting operations, tax management, budgeting, treasury management, financial reporting, investment planning, and compliance management for the institute. You will be expected to translate complex financial strategies into actionable execution plans while ensuring efficient implementation under rigorous multinational regulatory frameworks. This is a key role connecting strategy and operations, finance and scientific research, while demonstrating professional value in a diverse compliance environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Financial Planning & Budget Management: Develop and implement the institute’s financial plans; oversee comprehensive budgeting, monthly/quarterly execution monitoring, variance analysis, and reporting to ensure efficient and compliant allocation of resources.
  • Financial Accounting & Reporting: Maintain a financial accounting system compliant with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and German local requirements; prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual management financial statements, and assist in preparing various reports for submission to headquarters.
  • Tax Management: Responsible for tax planning and management to ensure compliance with German and EU tax regulations while optimizing tax efficiency.
  • Cost & Research Funding Control: Manage daily cost accounting and control; track and analyze financial data for research projects; assist in managing research funding from the parent group and EU grants, ensuring dedicated use of funds and compliance with sponsor regulations, while supporting audits and project close-outs.
  • Treasury Operations & Compliance Support: Assist in cash flow management, monitoring fund security and operational efficiency; coordinate with banks, tax authorities, and other external institutions. Under the guidance of the Director of Accounting & Planning, participate in improving internal financial control systems to ensure compliance with German, EU, and Chinese regulations.
  • Investment Planning: Assist in preparing, submitting, and executing investment plans related to institute assets and research projects, while tracking implementation effectiveness.
  • Fixed Assets & Team Collaboration: Assist in managing fixed assets, including asset register maintenance, inventory checks, and efficiency analysis. As a core member of the finance team, you may mentor junior colleagues and collaborate closely with research, HR, and administration departments to provide professional financial data support.

Job Requirements

  • Education & Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or above in Accounting, Economics, Finance, or related fields. CPA, ACCA, German financial qualifications (such as Steuerfachangestellte), or equivalent certifications are preferred.
  • Work Experience: 3–5+ years of relevant finance experience. Candidates with work experience in Germany or Europe and familiarity with local financial and tax environments are preferred. Experience in research institutions, grant/project funding management, or SAP/ERP systems will be an advantage.
  • Professional Knowledge & Skills: Solid financial expertise with familiarity in IFRS or German accounting standards (HGB); strong budgeting, financial analysis, and reporting capabilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and financial software is required. Fluent English (written and spoken) is mandatory as a working language; German or Chinese communication skills are preferred.

Strong teamwork, communication, and stress management abilities, capable of working efficiently in a fast-paced and demanding research support environment.
