State or Territory Certification / License

A fully professional, unencumbered state teaching license in the relevant content area, or the state’s equivalent as recognized by DoDEA, satisfies all qualifications for professional teaching education and certification. A Praxis I and II or seven years of Pre‑K‑12 teaching may substitute for an unencumbered license and will require meeting all minimum education requirements, a student‑teaching/internship, and full qualification standards. Applicants claiming military spouse preference under the MSLRA will receive consideration for an encumbered license.

  • The foreign institution that awarded the degree is on a list endorsed by a regionally accredited university or by a state department of education for teacher certification purposes. This requires an English translation of the transcript and a document awarding the degree, together with an authenticated list from an American university or state department of education.
  • The work may be evaluated by the graduate division of a regionally accredited university and declared equivalent to similar U.S. undergraduate or graduate work.

Graduates of non‑accredited institutions may have their undergraduate work validated by admission to graduate school and completion of a minimum of five semester hours of credit at a regionally accredited graduate college.
