Associate Professor, Politcial Science

Position Overview

Horry‑Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is a two‑year community/technical college that offers more than 75 associate degree, diploma, and certificate programs for students who are either seeking quick entry into the workforce or desiring to transfer to a senior institution to pursue a bachelor’s degree. HGTC has three campus locations in South Carolina: Myrtle Beach, Conway, and Georgetown. HGTC seeks a full‑time Political Science instructor who will travel and teach Political Science classes at any HGTC campus. This instructor will report to the Humanities and Fine Arts Department Head in the School of Arts and Sciences Division and be responsible for the following duties.

Responsibilities

• Developing program syllabi, goals and objectives
• Evaluating students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives
• Assessing Political Science students’ learning objectives
• Developing and implementing plans to improve student success rate of end‑of‑course exit examinations
• Maintaining program certification requirements, as appropriate
• Preparing and maintaining all required documentation and administrative reports
• Maintaining knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by attending staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences
• Meeting with students, staff members, and other educators to discuss students’ instructional programs and other issues impacting the progress of students
• Providing academic advisement to students
• Participating in academic term registrations

Minimum Requirements

Masters Degree in Political Science or Public Administration or Masters degree with 18 graduate hours in Political Science or Public Administration.
