Automation Engineer – Elektrofachkraft / Electrical Cabinet / Mechatronics

We are looking for an Automation Engineer to join a world leading technology company at their technology centre in Greater Munich Metropolitan Area .

You will be the technical backbone for our laboratory automation infrastructure. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing the electrical frameworks required to evaluate high-precision sub-assemblies. You will work at the intersection of mechanical design and electrical control, ensuring our R&D environments are capable of rigorous, reliable testing and data-driven analysis.

As an Automation Engineer your responsibilities will include:

  • Infrastructure Backbone : Take full ownership of the electrical architecture for our lab automation workstations, ensuring all systems are robust and scalable.
  • Systems Integration : Hands‑on integration of precision motion controllers, sensor hubs, industrial PCs, and pneumatic actuation systems into a unified test environment.
  • Cabinet Design : Engineer and construct custom electrical cabinets tailored to the specific requirements of our research and development teams.
  • Operational Readiness : Ensure that test rigs are fully functional and synchronized with project timelines.
  • Process Programming : Assist in the development of automated process flows and provide technical support to resolve complex evaluation challenges.
  • Platform Alignment : Adopt and work within established proprietary process control software, collaborating closely with local colleagues and headquarters.
  • Documentation & Standards : Maintain precise, transparent technical documentation for all electrical designs and system configurations.

As an Automation Engineer your skills will include:

  • Elektrofachkraft or IHS certification or Bachelor's in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a closely related technical field.
  • 5+ years of demonstrable experience in building industrial automation solutions.
  • A strong grasp of core automation technologies, including sensors, pneumatics, and sophisticated motion control.
  • Proven practical experience in designing and fabricating electrical cabinets (certification as an Elektrofachkraft or equivalent qualified person is highly preferred).
  • Deep technical insight into electrical system design, supplemented by experience in 3D printing for rapid prototyping of components.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation capabilities in English, enabling effective collaboration within an international, multicultural engineering department.
  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset and high level of intercultural sensitivity.
