Azure Data Engineer - Global IT

About the Role

SPORTFIVE is seeking a Senior Data Engineer for its Global IT team to support data-powered decision-making, advanced analytics, and next-generation fan experiences across global sports. The role is part of the company's accelerating AI transformation and will focus on AI-enabled platforms, financial data, and modern Lakehouse architectures.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and maintain scalable Lakehouse architectures and data pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and Microsoft Fabric to support analytics and AI products.
• Develop and optimise Delta Lake and Data Vault 2.0 models and implement ingestion and transformation for structured and unstructured data.
• Ensure data governance and lineage with Microsoft Purview and Unity Catalog across Databricks, Fabric, and Power BI.
• Manage secure access via RBAC and identity controls in ADF and Databricks, and operate Databricks workspaces including clusters, notebooks, Spark SQL, and Delta Live Tables.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Git strategies and Azure DevOps, and support migration from legacy systems such as Google BigQuery and Matillion.

Required Experience & Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a Data or AI Engineer in Azure environments.
• Strong Python, SQL, and Unix shell scripting skills for data processing and pipelines.
• Proficiency in Azure Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, and both SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with Microsoft Purview and/or Unity Catalog for data governance and lineage.
• Deep knowledge of Delta Lake, data modelling, and performance tuning.
• Skilled in CI/CD practices, Azure DevOps, and Git branching strategies.

Preferred Skills

• First experience with Azure AI services, including Cognitive Services, OpenAI, and LLM integration.
