Overview

In this role you will shape the cloud-based platform underpinning scientific simulations at a global scale. You work at the intersection of cloud infrastructure, software engineering, and scientific computing, owning key components and influencing the speed and quality of digital R&D outputs. You collaborate with cross-functional teams to run reliable workflows on Airflow atop AWS EKS and contribute to infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD automation. This is a hands-on, impact-driven opportunity in Covestro’s digital R&D ecosystem.

Verantwortungsbereiche
  • Operate and continuously improve Apache Airflow deployments on AWS EKS for scalable scientific workflows
  • Implement infrastructure-as-code with ArgoCD, Helm, and CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions
  • Configure and manage Kubernetes workloads on AWS EKS (namespaces, quotas, autoscaling via Karpenter)
  • Set up observability tooling (monitoring, logging, alerting) for Airflow and simulation environments
  • Translate workflow developer and user requirements into architecture inputs
  • Support design of custom Airflow components (plugins/operators) and isolated HPC compute environments
  • Create technical documentation (Backstage/TechDocs, Confluence) and track projects in Jira; perform cloud-native tech scouting
Zentrale Anforderungen
  • PhD in a relevant field or equivalent demonstrated experience deploying and operating scientific software and/or AWS cloud infrastructure
  • Strong experience with infrastructure-as-code (ArgoCD, Helm) and CI/CD with GitHub Actions
  • Software development skills including parallel computing libraries and GPU acceleration
  • Hands-on Apache Airflow experience or strong willingness to learn
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes (preferably EKS) including autoscaling and resource management
  • Experience with AWS cloud services and cloud-native patterns; fluent English
