Responsibilities

  • Management of all Mercury’s commissioning responsibilities on site, including the setup, management, and closing out of the Commissioning plan for the project.
  • Management of direct reports (commissioning and testing personnel on site).
  • Management of the Commissioning Tagging process and procedures.
  • Reporting progress on all commissioning activities both internally and externally.
  • Chairing weekly commissioning meetings and directing weekly commissioning activities.
  • Chairing daily whiteboard meetings on commissioning.
  • Hosting the General Contractor and client weekly commissioning meetings and reporting out weekly progress.
  • Monitoring and updating the daily analysis report and monthly schedule.
  • Responsibility for progress & delay analysis report.
  • Managing project scope, construction progress, resources, critical path & milestone activities.
  • Producing weekly look‑ahead schedules.
  • Creating a baseline schedule composed of Engineering, Construction, Testing & Commissioning.
  • Ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Producing Testing & Commissioning documents.
  • Attending and coordinating weekly meetings with the client, subcontractors & suppliers.
  • Developing the project commissioning schedule in conjunction with project planners.
  • Managing Mercury’s “Lock Out – Tag Out” processes and procedures.
  • Managing area control permits for all areas under Mercury’s control (primarily electrical switch rooms) to ensure that all areas are restricted and controlled.
  • Responsible for compiling all Testing and Commissioning documentation, including verifying and signing off on all results.
  • Familiarity with and management of the Project Commissioning Schedule in conjunction with other trades, package leads, consulting engineers and client requirements.
  • Ensuring that all testing and commissioning staff are tracked on the site and labour allocation tracker sheets are issued daily.
  • Managing sub‑contractor activities, including tracking progress against schedule and staffing levels, and ensuring a weekly minute meeting with sub‑contractors.
  • Attending Factory Witness Testing (FWT) as required.
  • Managing the main capital plant vendors.
  • Assisting with the management of all costs associated with your package, including:
    • Mercury Electrical Team
    • Mercury Mechanical Team
    • Sub‑contractors
    • Material deliveries and goods receipting
    • Plant and Equipment
    • Variations
    • Valuations
  • Managing all day‑to‑day on‑site commissioning operations.
  • Managing all Mercury commissioning‑related snagging and ensuring that all snags are closed out in a timely manner (within one week of being raised).
  • Attending site meetings, internal project reviews, engineering reviews, planning and coordination meetings, and handover meetings.
  • Closing out all project items – all with the support of the Electrical and Mechanical package managers.
  • Implementing a weekly look‑ahead ensuring coordination with vendors and trades.
  • Issuing an internal weekly progress report, highlighting progress percentages based on WBS codes and any concerns, and identifying any risk elements within Mercury’s control (e.g., late deliveries).
  • Maintaining a weekly project photographic diary.
  • Developing a strong professional working relationship with the client, client representatives and vendors.
  • All other duties associated with this role.

Qualifications and Key Criteria

  • Must be able to travel freely across the EU as this role will require travelling.
  • Degree in Engineering and at least 5 years’ experience in a commissioning manager role on large‑scale industrial projects, or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • Applicants must have extensive commissioning knowledge of the typical mechanical and electrical systems associated with data centres.
  • Distinguished understanding of building regulation and European standards, codes and practices.
  • Ability to manage and execute a full IST and prior experience in the same is essential.
  • Experience in developing all required IST documentation and managing the completion of the same on a digital platform.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks to achieve project deadlines and budgets.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels and the ability to report to the management team and client.
  • Ability to produce detailed reports, presentations and assignments regularly to an extremely high standard.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Successful management of all client and contractor vendors to ensure specifications are adhered to and all plant/equipment is commissioned on time and in line with the tagging/commissioning process.
  • Ability to delegate effectively and to know when and whom to delegate to.
  • Ability to thrive in a team‑working environment and to exhibit strong social skills.
  • Lead, manage and motivate the entire team.
