Role Overview
The Design, Engineering & Estimation Manager will lead and coordinate the design and estimation function across multiple projects. The role is responsible for ensuring technical quality, consistency, and commercial accuracy across all engineering outputs from tender stage through to project completion.
This position combines technical leadership, team management, and process development, with responsibility for aligning engineering outputs with project, commercial, and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the design and estimation team, ensuring delivery quality and alignment with project and client requirements
- Oversee preparation of technical designs, calculations, and specifications for tenders and live projects
- Provide technical oversight across engineering activities to ensure consistency across all projects
- Support project teams with technical queries, design interpretation, and problem‑solving
- Develop and implement structured processes across design, estimation, QA/QC, commissioning, and as‑built documentation
- Define approval workflows, responsibilities, and deliverable timelines
- Standardise templates for design calculations, BOQs, QA/QC documentation, commissioning reports, and as‑built records
- Establish document control processes, including versioning, approvals, and compliance standards
- Train and mentor design, estimation, and project engineering staff
- Develop internal training materials, technical guides, and case studies
- Conduct design reviews, estimation checks, and site engineering audits
- Review estimated vs actual project performance (cost, design, and execution alignment)
- Liaise with operations, sales, and finance teams to ensure project alignment
- Act as technical interface between head office functions and site/project delivery teams
- Support client and consultant technical discussions where required
Required Profile
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Management, or equivalent technical qualification
- Several years’ experience in design, estimation, and project engineering within a technical or construction‑related environment
- Strong technical understanding of electrical engineering design and cost estimation
- Experience across full project lifecycle (tendering, design, execution, handover)
- Strong commercial awareness and cost control understanding
- Structured and process‑driven working approach
- Experience in leading teams and developing staff capability
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- High attention to detail and quality standards
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Fluent in German and English (written and spoken)
