About us

Aortex develops patient-specific stent grafts for the endovascular treatment of aortic aneurysms. A significant share of affected patients cannot be treated with today's standard off-the-shelf devices due to their anatomy, and are therefore excluded from gentle, minimally invasive therapy. It is precisely for these patients that we are developing a new generation of devices: an ultra-thin, precision-woven polymer membrane combined with a self-expanding nitinol stent, manufactured using a patented weaving process and geometrically derived from each individual patient's CT imaging.

We are an early-stage startup based in Hamburg, founded by two engineers with backgrounds in industrial series development. We are currently establishing our second site in Magdeburg, where we are consolidating our development work. Our German patent has been granted, the international application is underway, our first prototypes have been characterized, and we work closely with university medical centers and established contract manufacturers.

That's where you come in: you will drive the technical development of the complete system, consisting of stent graft, stent, catheter, and delivery system, and build the test environment we use to demonstrate its safety and performance. You will be working on a product that is still taking shape, and you will influence what it ultimately looks like.

Your responsibilities

Advance the complete system, comprising the stent graft and its subcomponents (stent, catheter, and delivery system), from initial concept through design to a functional prototype.

Design the individual components, evaluate material and joining concepts, and turn design decisions into robust engineering solutions.

Conceive, design, and build the test rigs and test setups we need for verification and validation, and select the appropriate test methods.

Perform tests, analyze them, and document the results so they can be used within design controls and the technical documentation.

Coordinate closely with our external development and manufacturing partners, translate our requirements into clear specifications, and oversee implementation through to an accepted result.

Work directly with the founders and our regulatory affairs and quality function, bringing the technical perspective into product decisions.

Your profile

What you should bring:

Degree in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, materials engineering, or a comparable qualification.

Professional experience in medical device development, with personal responsibility for parts or assemblies.

Confidence in engineering design, working with CAD, and the design of mechanical systems.

Experience in building test rigs or in planning and performing mechanical tests according to standards.

Excellent written and spoken German and English, as we work with international partners and suppliers.

Willingness to travel occasionally to our Hamburg site and to our partners.

Nice to have:

Experience with implantable Class III devices, ideally with stent grafts, catheters, or delivery systems.

Knowledge of the relevant standards for endovascular prostheses, such as ISO 25539-1 and ISO 7198.

Experience with nitinol or other shape-memory alloys, as well as with textile materials.

Familiarity with design controls, risk management, and the logic of verification and validation in medical technology.

Experience working with external development partners and contract manufacturers.

Your permanent place of work is Magdeburg. If you relocate for the role, we will support you with the move. The position is designed as full-time, but we are happy to discuss part-time arrangements.
