Axolabs is a business unit of LGC, and a leading provider of CRO/CDMO capabilities to the therapeutic oligonucleotide discovery and development industry. Centred out of LGC’s site in Kulmbach, Germany, Axolabs works closely with its customers to assist the identification and development of lead candidates with a broad suite of bioinformatics, biology, chemistry, manufacturing and analytical services that support discovery, pre-clinical and clinical trials and scale-up manufacture. With a track record in Nucleic Acid Therapeutics that traces back more than 25 years, Axolabs provides deep knowledge and expertise in the services it provides, working collaboratively and responsively with its clients to assist them in achieving their objectives.

For our Axolabs CRO business located in Kulmbach, Germany, we are seeking an experienced business development professional as a successor to the Director Business Development.

The Director Business Development – Axolabs (CRO) will be instrumental in defining and driving Axolabs’ business development strategy. Directing a Business Development team the successful candidate will play a key role in delivering Axolabs’ business growth aspiration. Extending brand recognition within the associated client base the successful candidate will provide frontline interactions with biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies across Europe, with the opportunity to contribute to business activities in US and Asia.

The role offers a unique opportunity for an individual that possesses strong scientific and problem-solving skills, deep knowledge of the pharmaceutical development process, the ability to network at senior levels in client organisations and a good business acumen.

Reporting to the Axolabs CRO Managing Director, the Director Business Development will be part of the extended leadership team.

This position requires knowledge and experience in business development in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sector, good industry networks and deep exposure to drug development projects, ideally in the field of Nucleic Acid Therapeutics.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop networks with senior professionals in existing and prospective Axolabs customers to increase awareness of the available service and product offerings and of the total value proposition of the Axolabs Business.
• Identify and target new business opportunities, liaising with clients and subject matter experts to provide the best solutions for delivering the desired customer outcomes.
• Effectively present the full services of Axolabs to new and existing clients and at appropriate scientific meetings.
• Prepare high quality proposals in conjunction with scientific and sales specialists in the Axolabs operation.
• Research and analyze market developments and competition
• Contribute to business planning, budgeting and reporting activities
• Record and identify metrics to monitor execution of business development strategy
• Direct and develop a team of BD/sales colleagues.

Experience

• Extensiveexperience within the Pharmaceutical or CRO industries, ideally in the field of oligonucleotide therapeutics.
• Proven track record of driving successful businesses and deal making.
• Knowledge of the drug research and development process within the pharmaceutical industry.

Education

• Advanced scientific qualifications in the field of biology, chemistry or biochemistry
