Director of Event Operations

Ark Recruitment are in working in partnership with an incredible fast growing start up on a mission to elevate the Deep Tech sector, following an exceptional launch event last year they’re pushing forward with their recruitment to ensure the next one is even bigger and better than before!

Their next key hire is an Event Director who can take the lead in terms of operations and delivery, building out a high performing team of producers, coordinators and event professionals, setting clear goals, driving a culture of ownership and excellence and leading them to success.

We’re on the look out for an experienced Event Operations Director, with 5+ years demonstrable experience leading and delivering high attendee events, seamlessly executing every detail to ensure smooth and impactful conferences.

Key responsibilities:

• Build, lead and develop the operations team, setting clear goals and driving accountability.
• Own the operational delivery of 6,000+ person events across venue, logistics, catering, AV, registration and onsite delivery.
• Take full ownership of the event P&L, budgets, forecasting and profit targets.
• Manage and negotiate key supplier relationships, protecting quality, costs and margins.
• Lead weekly alignment across Sales, Marketing, Content and Operations to keep delivery on track.
• Work with senior leadership to develop and execute the wider event strategy.
• Own weekly revenue forecasting, monthly P&L reporting, KPI tracking and post-event reconciliation.
• Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs and increase margins.

What you’ll bring to the role:

• Previous experience recruiting and leading a fast-paced, results focused team.
• Running conferences or exhibitions of 2000+ attendees
• Solid experience owning the P&L for the event/s, setting, forecasting & achieving annual events budgets.
• Supplier management and negotiations, with venues, catering, AV, registration platforms and other vendors.
• Working cross functionally with sales, marketing and production and clearly able to execute ambitious events strategies.
• Entrepreneurial mindset, ideas orientated and able to take ownership and accountability for key decisions that impact the operations team, function and overarching business.
• 5+ years’ experience in a senior events operation role, either Head of looking for your next step, or Event Director keen for your next challenge.
• This role will be based out of the companies HQ in Berlin. Whilst being based in Berlin or Germany isn’t essential, there would be an expectation of regular monthly travel to ensure collaboration and consistency for the team you build.
