Electrical and Instrumentation Manager

We are supporting a growing biopharmaceutical manufacturing organisation as they prepare a GMP production site for operational readiness.

The business is looking for an Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls Manager to lead site readiness across electrical infrastructure, instrumentation, control systems, calibration, automation interfaces and future maintenance support.

This role will initially focus on bringing the plant from project phase into routine GMP operations, with longer-term scope to grow into broader leadership for the site.

Responsibilities

• Lead E&I readiness for a GMP biologics manufacturing facility.
• Own electrical systems, instrumentation, control panels, MCCs, VFDs, UPS, power distribution and critical facility infrastructure.
• Support commissioning, loop checks, FAT/SAT, qualification readiness and operational handover.
• Build maintenance strategies, calibration plans, spare parts lists, SOPs and CMMS structures.
• Support equipment interfaces across bioreactors, buffer/media preparation, chromatography skids, UF/DF systems, CIP/SIP, cleanrooms and utilities.
• Work closely with Automation, Utilities, Engineering, CQV, Quality, Production, EHS and external vendors.
• Ensure instrumentation and control systems support GMP manufacturing, cleanroom operations, environmental monitoring and process reliability.
• Manage deviations, CAPAs, change controls and technical investigations related to E&I systems.
• Support reliability, troubleshooting, obsolescence planning and lifecycle management of critical plant systems.
• Develop the contractor and technical support model for routine plant operations.

Requirements

• E&I, controls or maintenance leadership experience within pharmaceutical, biotech, biologics or regulated manufacturing.
• Strong knowledge of electrical infrastructure, instrumentation, calibration, control panels, MCCs, VFDs and industrial control systems.
• Experience supporting site start-up, commissioning, qualification, handover or operational readiness.
• Good understanding of GMP manufacturing environments, cleanrooms, utilities and critical process equipment.
• Experience with instrumentation for temperature, pressure, flow, level, pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen and process monitoring.
• Exposure to PLC, SCADA, BMS, EMS or automation-controlled manufacturing systems.
• Ability to build maintenance and calibration systems from project phase into stable GMP operations.
• Strong knowledge of GMP documentation, SOPs, deviations, CAPAs, change control and audit readiness.
• Experience managing vendors, service contracts, spare parts, CMMS and preventive maintenance programmes.
• Strong communication skills across Engineering, Quality, Automation, CQV, Production and EHS.
• German and English language skills required.
