Environmental Project Manager I (Remote)

Environmental Project Manager I – Philadelphia, PA

Position Summary: The Environmental Project Manager I will manage project planning, budgeting, scheduling, technical deliverables, risk management, and client communications for EPA Region 3 projects.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and support CERCLA‑regulated remediation projects and field investigations at hazardous waste sites.
  • Develop project budgets and schedules to meet performance and payment milestones.
  • Direct, manage, and lead project teams to meet objectives in line with corporate and customer quality expectations.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, regulators, project team members, field crews, subcontractors, and company management.
  • Analyze and interpret environmental and analytical data.
  • Manage technical and administrative aspects of project deliverables, including reviewing and authoring technical reports such as CERCLA Remedial Investigations, Feasibility Studies, Remedial Designs, and Remedial Action Work Plans.
  • Procure subcontractors, develop cost estimates, and oversee field teams.
  • Manage project risks and develop mitigation approaches and strategies.
  • Support business development efforts, including leading or supporting proposal efforts.
  • Supervise project staff.
  • Travel to project sites and client offices as needed, approximately 10% of the time.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years of experience managing EPA, DoD, and/or DOE investigation and remediation projects regulated by CERCLA and/or RCRA.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Strong technical writing, organizational, and oral communication skills.
  • Willingness to perform technical tasks ranging from fieldwork to data management and report preparation.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of groundwater, surface water, soil, and sediment sampling methodologies at CERCLA and RCRA sites.
  • Excellent time‑management and organization skills to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Ability to build consensus and communicate effectively with leadership and stakeholders.

Desired Qualifications

  • EPA Superfund experience.
  • Knowledge of the CERCLA process and work phases.
  • Experience mentoring and supervising staff.
  • Current 40‑hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification and 8‑hour OSHA refresher certification.
  • Professional credentials such as PE, PG, or PMP.
  • Experience with Microsoft Project.
  • Master’s degree in a related field.

Physical & Cognitive Requirements

  • Ability to lift/move items up to 50 lbs; prolonged sitting or standing up to 70% of the time; walking long distances; repetitive hand motions and extended computer use; ability to see detail at close and distant ranges; driving a vehicle; climbing ladders or stairs.
  • Analyzing and synthesizing data; complex problem solving and decision making; reading and interpreting technical documents or regulations; writing reports, proposals, or technical documentation; leading a team or coordinating multiple priorities; communicating with clients, team members, and stakeholders; managing competing deadlines and shifting priorities.

Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions; travel approximately 10% per year; work in environments with loud noises, dust, or hazardous materials; wear appropriate PPE in the field; occasional longer workdays up to 12 hours.

Salary

The annual salary for this position ranges from $92,285 to $138,428. Final salary may be impacted by various factors including contractual requirements, geographic location, job‑related education, training, experience, and skills.
