Environmental Scientists/Field Technicians – Saskatchewan Based

Job Summary

Environmental Field Technician/Scientist based out of Saskatchewan, join the Winnipeg team in a role performing monitoring, sampling, and site investigations at active and vacant downstream oil & gas properties.

Responsibilities

  • Performs various field and office tasks requiring the application of basic scientific principles and fundamental theories.
  • Researches and compiles background data in support of an environmental project.
  • Monitors and performs groundwater sampling utilizing a wide variety of equipment.
  • Executes field operations with a focus on safety, efficiency and compliance with procedures.
  • Operates field monitoring equipment (e.g. 'GPS', 'data loggers', 'survey level', 'combustible gas meters').
  • Collects soil samples during drilling, test pitting and excavation activities.
  • Supervises drillers and other contractors.
  • Completes field documentation such as JSA forms, project field reports, field notes, monitoring and chain‑of‑custody forms.
  • Works with project coordinators/ managers to ensure projects are completed on time and on budget.
  • Reviews and analyzes data collected in environmental sampling programs.
  • Mentors and provides technical support to junior field staff as required.
  • Travels and stays overnight approximately 90% of the time; weekend and evening work required.
  • Possesses willingness to travel and/or relocate to field sites.
  • Performs other related responsibilities such as technical report writing.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree/Diploma in a science, civil, environmental, chemical, geological engineering or related program.
  • Ability to take prime responsibility for execution of work.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Physically capable: standing, walking over rough surfaces, lifting, bending, etc.
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem‑solving, and critical‑thinking skills.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license.
  • Willingness to travel for extended periods throughout Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and NWT, including remote locations.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working at downstream oil & gas sites.
  • 1+ years of relevant experience.
