Executive Producer, Documentary Series Local Originals (GSA)
The Executive Producer, together with the VP, is responsible for the development, editorial oversight, and delivery of premium locally produced documentary series serving the German‑speaking markets. The role focuses on originating and managing unscripted premium content that reflects regional cultural relevance while meeting the creative, editorial, and operational standards of HBO.
Your Role Accountabilities
Creative & Editorial Oversight
- Lead the selection, development and execution of local original documentary series across the GSA region, in close collaboration with the VP.
- Review and approve pitches, treatments, scripts, rough cuts, and final deliverables.
- Ensure all content aligns with HBO’s editorial standards, storytelling expectations, and local regulatory requirements.
- Provide editorial guidance that balances strong local perspectives with international storytelling appeal.
Production & Operational Management
- Oversee multiple documentary productions simultaneously from development through delivery.
- Ensure productions are completed within approved budgets, schedules, and contractual parameters.
- Partner closely with Production Management, Legal, Business Affairs, and Post Production on budgeting, timing and contracting.
- Monitor delivery timelines and technical specifications in line with HBO requirements.
Regional & Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Act as a key point of contact for local production partners across Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.
- Collaborate with EMEA and global HBO teams across Editorial, Marketing, Communications, and PR to support launch and positioning.
- Contribute to regional slate planning and long‑term local documentary strategy.
Talent & Partner Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local filmmakers, journalists, producers, and production companies.
- Represent HBO’s creative and business interests in all external engagements.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members, where applicable.
Skills and Experience Required
- Minimum 10 years of professional experience producing or executive producing documentary films or series.
- Significant experience working in the GSA region with established knowledge of local production environments.
- Proven ability to manage complex documentary productions, including budgets and schedules.
- Strong editorial judgment and experience overseeing premium unscripted content.
- Experience working with broadcasters or global streaming platforms preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in German and English.
- Strong leadership and decision‑making capabilities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in a matrixed, international organization.
- High level of organizational discipline and attention to detail.
- Collaborative and solution‑oriented working style.
