Field Service Engineer

Join ABB in Ratingen as a field service/automation technician supporting ABB process control systems at customer sites. You will install, commission, maintain ABB control systems (800xA, AC800M, Freelance/Melody) and provide on-site or remote technical support to ensure reliability and customer satisfaction. You’ll contribute to automation projects from installation to commissioning and help modernize existing systems. This role offers regional travel and the chance to shape a cleaner, smarter future.

• Perform installation and commissioning of equipment at customer sites and diagnose technical problems via on-site or remote analysis
• Provide on-site or remote technical support for process control system malfunctions and upgrade existing systems
• Consult with customers to propose best service solutions and maintain strong relationships
• Participate in automation projects from installation through programming and commissioning and troubleshoot to prevent recurrence

• Completed technician qualification or currently pursuing; a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Industrial Engineering preferred
• Several years of automation experience, ideally with ABB controls such as 800xA, AC800M, Freelance or Melody
• Solid servicing, maintenance, commissioning and repair experience
• Strong communication, analytical thinking and continuous learning mindset
• Willingness to travel ~30% (more in first year); valid driving license
• Good IT knowledge including Windows, PC hardware, networking, cybersecurity
• Fluency in German with good English
