Financial Business Partner / Controller (m/f/d)

Location: Hamburg (HafenCity) with potential considerations for London. Role starts as soon as possible. This key interface role supports the financial steering of our international marketing business, working closely with Marketing, Finance, and Risk Management to analyze performance drivers, create transparency around profitability, and contribute to informed business decision‑making. The role combines commercial understanding with strong financial expertise, navigating complex reporting structures, different accounting standards, and operational performance management. It also involves identifying risks early, developing governance structures, and strengthening long‑term profitability.

Your Tasks In a Nutshell

  • Analyze performance: evaluate P&Ls across marketing activities, margin developments, variances, and key financial performance drivers.
  • Bridge accounting concepts: apply mark‑to‑market and accrual accounting principles and support interpretation of commercial and financial data.
  • Support financial close activities: contribute to monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes, including accruals, adjustments, and reporting.
  • Manage risks: identify financial and operational risks, strengthen controls, and support internal and external audits.
  • Advise stakeholders: translate complex financial topics into clear, actionable insights for Marketing, Finance, and Risk teams; provide recommendations and serve as a trusted sparring partner.

What Helps You To Fulfill This Role

  • Education: completed degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
  • Professional experience: several years in Financial Controlling, Product Control, or Commercial Finance – ideally within energy, commodity, or industrial sector.
  • Technical expertise: good knowledge of German GAAP and mark‑to‑market accounting concepts, general awareness of IFRS; experience with complex reporting and consolidation structures is an advantage.
  • Industry knowledge: marketing and downstream value chain within the oil & gas industry is considered an advantage.
  • Systems skills: advanced Excel skills, experience with ERP systems such as SAP; PowerPoint and knowledge of Power BI or other reporting/visualization tools are a plus.
  • Languages: excellent written and spoken English; German is a plus.
