German and/or European Patent Attorney (22970B5)

Referment is working with a European intellectual-property law firm seeking a qualified German and/or European Patent Attorney for one of its German offices. The practice brings technical and legal specialists together to advise international clients on complex patent matters across technology-led industries.

The position spans the core work of a patent attorney, with particular emphasis on patent enforcement and defence, analysing third-party rights and developing persuasive technical and legal arguments. It also offers exposure to proceedings before the Unified Patent Court. Flexible working hours and the option to work from home form part of the working environment.

The Role

• Advise international clients on technically complex patent matters.
• Support the enforcement and defence of patents, turning detailed technical analysis into clear legal arguments.
• Analyse third-party intellectual-property rights and contribute to challenges against them.
• Work on matters before relevant patent authorities and, where applicable, the Unified Patent Court.
• Apply expertise across a broad range of technologies rather than being limited to a single narrow application area.

What We're Looking For

• Qualification as a German Patent Attorney and/or European Patent Attorney, with admission before the relevant German or European patent office.
• An academic background in computer science, electrical engineering, information technology or physics.
• Practical patent-law experience and strong technical understanding.
• The ability to analyse technical and legal issues quickly, accurately and persuasively.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including highly proficient, negotiation-level English.

Relevant Desirable Experience

Experience in patent enforcement, defence, oppositions, nullity work or UPC matters would align particularly well with the stated focus of the position.

This could suit a qualified patent attorney from private practice or an appropriate in-house patent function who enjoys combining rigorous technical analysis with contentious and strategic patent work for international clients.
