Adjunct Faculty – German Language

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks an adjunct faculty member to teach the German Language program on‑site in Baumholder, Germany. The position is instructional and will involve both face‑to‑face and online teaching activities with adult learners.

Qualifications & Eligibility

• Master’s degree in German Language Studies or related field from an accredited institution.
• Professional experience in German Language Studies or a related field.
• Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education strongly preferred.
• Local applicants only; adjunct faculty are not eligible for UMGC sponsored logistical support.
• Must maintain legal status in the country where they teach.

• Unofficial transcripts for all conferred degrees with conferral dates
• International degrees may require a translation or degree evaluation from a NACES‑approved vendor.

Responsibilities

• Engage students frequently to motivate learning and demonstrate enthusiasm for German language acquisition.
• Guide students in active collaboration and application of concepts through problem‑ and project‑based learning demonstrations.
• Provide rich, constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics for student assessment and acknowledging accomplishments.
• Demonstrate current subject‑matter expertise and help students connect concepts across their academic program.
• Provide feedback to program chair on potential curricular improvements.

Professional Development

All new faculty members must complete UMGC’s online new faculty orientation, FacDev 122, before beginning instruction.

Employment Details

• Salary commensurate with experience.
• Position remains open until filled.
• Adjuncts are eligible for State of Maryland benefits only; no subsidized rates are provided.

Adjuncts must cover the full cost of enrollment.
