Grid Connection Manager BESS

A fast growing developer of large scale battery energy storage systems (BESS), based just outside Munich. Founded by an experienced team of energy and industry leaders and backed by strong equity investment, the business has built a pipeline of three BESS projects totalling 2.6 GW, all connecting to the grid at 380 kV through Germany's TSO network. The largest of these is a 1 GW / 4 GWh project with a budget of around EUR 600 million, and grid connection applications are already underway.

The opportunity

This is a genuinely horizontal role, sitting across all three BESS projects and acting as the company's core point of contact with the TSO. You will be trusted to manage that relationship independently from an early stage, working closely with the COO and the wider procurement, permitting and engineering teams.

What you'll do

• Act as the primary interface with the TSO across all three BESS projects.
• Write and review technical specifications for grid connection and substation equipment.
• Assess supplier and EPC proposals against those specifications.
• Lead transformer sizing and specification work.
• Support grid connection contract discussions, circuit breaker layout and grid studies.
• Work with GIS and AAS systems as part of the wider engineering process.

What we're looking for

• At least five years of experience in grid or power systems engineering, with hands-on 380 kV project experience in Germany. Wind and solar backgrounds without 380 kV exposure are unlikely to be a fit.
• Fluent German, with strong familiarity with German grid and TSO processes.
• A cross functional, team first attitude and comfort working in a fast paced, hands‑on environment.
• Reliability.

Nice to have

• Direct experience working with a German TSO.
• Experience on BESS projects specifically.
• Background working with transformer manufacturers or GIS/AAS system providers.

This is a founder led business backed by serious industry experience and equity funding, not an early stage idea still looking for its first project. With 2.6 GW already in procurement across three large scale BESS projects, this is a rare chance to own the TSO relationship for a business that is scaling fast and still building out its senior team.
