HVAC Design Manager

Datacenter People are currently supporting one of Europe\'s fastest-growing data center developers and operators, in the search for a Senior Mechanical Design Manager to join their Construction team in Germany.

This is a senior technical leadership role focused on the design and development of mission-critical mechanical infrastructure for large-scale data center projects.

The position offers the opportunity to influence projects from early-stage development through to construction, helping shape the next generation of sustainable data centers across Europe.

The Opportunity

You will take ownership of the mechanical design strategy for major data center developments, acting as the subject matter expert across cooling, energy efficiency, sustainability and mechanical infrastructure.

Working closely with development, construction and external design partners, you will play a key role in ensuring facilities are efficient, reliable and future-proof.

What the Job Involves…

• Act as the subject matter expert for cooling and mechanical infrastructure systems
• Review engineering calculations, specifications and design documentation
• Develop and maintain the mechanical "Basis of Design" across projects
• Support projects through development, design review, tendering and construction phases
• Manage external consultants and engineering partners
• Drive value engineering and continuous improvement initiatives
• Develop modular and prefabricated design strategies
• Support sustainability objectives, carbon reduction initiatives and PUE optimisation
• Collaborate closely with development, engineering and construction teams
• Build strong relationships with contractors, vendors and consultants

The role spans the full project lifecycle and offers significant influence over how future facilities are designed and delivered.

We\'re Looking for Someone Who...

• Extensive experience designing mechanical systems for data centers or other mission-critical facilities
• Strong understanding of cooling infrastructure, HVAC systems and energy optimisation
• Experience working with AutoCAD, Revit, BIM platforms and CFD modelling tools
• Knowledge of EU environmental regulations, EN, ASHRAE and ISO standards
• Proven ability to manage complex technical scopes across multiple projects
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
• Fluent German and English
