The South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences is seeking to fill the following position at its Hagen campus in Department 6 “IT Services” (Central IT Services) on a short-term basis:

IT Application and System Administration (m/f/d)

Responsibilities

• Setup, operation, and further development of predominantly Linux-based systems (application servers, database servers, etc.)
• Development of concepts, transition to operational use, and continuous further development; responsible implementation of projects
• Operation and support of applications and services (installation, configuration, monitoring, patch management, backup, conducting training sessions)
• Support and point of contact for subject matter administrators, as well as handling forwarded technical inquiries

Requirements

• Completed university degree (Bachelor’s or University of Applied Sciences diploma) in Computer Science, Business Informatics, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or similar; alternatively, completed relevant vocational training with proof of several years of professional experience in the aforementioned fields
• In-depth knowledge of the administration of current Linux server operating systems as well as good Windows skills
• Knowledge of scripting, e.g., with bash, Python, Perl, PHP
• Knowledge of common web and application servers (e.g., Apache / NGINX, Tomcat / WildFly)
• Knowledge of database systems (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MS SQL)
• Very good German language skills (at least C1 level, spoken and written) and good English language skills (B2 level)
• Open-mindedness, ability to work independently, and initiative
• Service-oriented mindset and enjoyment of teamwork

Knowledge of the Moodle e-learning platform (administration, roles/permissions, plugin configuration), the VIMP media server, current directory and authentication services, and the Icinga monitoring tool is a plus.

Contract Terms

The part-time position (up to 24 hours per week) is based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement for the Public Service of the German States (TV-L) and is to be filled on a fixed-term basis until October 31, 2027. Salary classification will be in pay grade 10 or 11 of the TV-L, depending on personal qualifications. Working hours and location can be arranged flexibly within the framework of an existing model.
