Overview

As Major Projects Director in Arup’s Infrastructure Design Services in Germany, you lead the Fehmarnbelt programme as Project Director, guiding multidisciplinary delivery and senior client engagement. You’ll shape delivery excellence, governance, and risk management while building Arup’s leadership presence in the German market. Over time, you’ll transition toward leading Rail business in Germany, expanding client partnerships and service offerings. This role combines strategic oversight with hands-on leadership across Europe’s significant transport infrastructure projects.

Verantwortungsbereiche
  • Act as Project Director for Fehmarnbelt contributions, directing detailed design and multidisciplinary coordination of a major road and rail link.
  • Provide senior leadership across complex project delivery, ensuring technical quality, governance, risk control, and programme performance.
  • Represent Arup at senior levels with DB, DEGES, contractors, JV/alliance partners, and other stakeholders in Germany and Europe.
  • Lead internal delivery teams, promoting clarity and alignment across offices, disciplines, and partners to maximise performance.
  • Support and transition to the Business Leader Rail role in Germany, including business planning, client development, and growth of rail service offerings.
  • Contribute to Arup’s broader impact in Germany by strengthening advisory and delivery capabilities for complex, sustainable infrastructure.
Zentrale Anforderungen
  • Extensive senior leadership experience in major infrastructure design and delivery (rail, road, tunnels, bridges, multidisciplinary programmes).
  • Proven track record as Project Director, Project Executive, Design Director or equivalent on large, high-value projects.
  • Strong understanding of the German infrastructure market and experience with public clients, rail organisations, contractors, and JV/alliances.
  • Credibility to engage externally at senior levels and represent Arup with authority.
  • Ability to lead large, multidisciplinary, multicultural teams across locations and partners.
  • Commercial acumen with governance, risk management, contract interfaces, and client expectations on complex assignments.
  • University degree in engineering, transport, infrastructure, construction management or related field; Chartered status advantageous.
