Manager, Manufacturing Engineering, Battery Development (m/w/d)

What to Expect

Tesla is looking to hire an Engineering Manager to contribute to the development of manufacturing processes for our cutting-edge battery products. In this role you will drive technological advancement across electrical interconnection, functional testing, mechanical joining, and computer/machine vision as part of a small, specialized team. Battery development is at the heart of our company, and this is an exciting opportunity to work directly on the central challenges with electric vehicles – battery cost and performance. Tesla is a demanding and fast-paced environment where you will work with a highly motivated team on extremely challenging projects.

What You’ll Do

• Lead a multidisciplinary team of development engineers
• Design, build, and maintain a prototype line in collaboration with Battery Design
• Proactively solve production issues via Design for Manufacturability (DFM) & Reliability (DFR)
• Validate and optimize processes from early prototype builds through full volume production
• Drive proof-of-concept to green light new and novel methods, technologies, and suppliers

What You’ll Bring

• 5+ years of engineering or equivalent relevant experience
• Experience developing and implementing processes and equipment in high-volume production (laser welding, ultrasonic wire bonding, ultrasonic welding, soldering, adhesive dispense, fastening, resistance testing, assembly, vision inspection, etc)
• Proficiency in geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T) and experimental design
• Capability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally (up to 30%)
• Degree in Engineering, Physics, Materials, or equivalent experience
