Principal Engineer - Java - Trade Validation

Join our Market Services Trade Validation team and help shape the next phase of our post-trade platform transformation. The team is evolving a digital-first post-trade lifecycle, partnering closely with business teams and using modern cloud and AI-enabled technologies to reduce manual intervention, move controls closer to trade execution, and validate data at source. What role will you play?

As a hands-on engineering leader, you’ll shape the architecture, delivery, and technical direction of a large-scale financial platform while continuing to write production code regularly. You’ll review pull requests, design microservices architecture, mentor engineers, uplift code quality, and help drive consistent engineering standards across the team.

You’ll act as a player-coach, balancing deep technical contribution with team leadership. You’ll help turn complexity into clarity, empower engineers to take ownership, manage delivery risk carefully, and guide the team to make high-quality technical decisions with appropriate autonomy.

What you offer

• Extensive hands‑on software engineering experience, with deep Java/JVM expertise and a strong track record delivering complex, business-critical platforms
• Strong current coding capability in Java and JavaScript, including experience with Java 17+, Spring Boot 3.x, Spring Cloud, and Spring Security
• Experience designing distributed systems, microservices architectures, scalable backend platforms, and API‑led integrations
• Practical experience with cloud-native engineering, preferably AWS, including Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability, and operational resilience
• Experience with data and messaging technologies such as PostgreSQL, Redis, MSSQL, Apache Kafka, AWS SQS/SNS, and RESTful APIs
• Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop engineering teams, creating a culture of trust, clarity, accountability, and ownership
• Strong architectural judgement, with the ability to make high-quality technical decisions, manage delivery risk, and bring structure to ambiguous environments
• Experience with AI‑assisted development, automation, or agentic AI integration, including tools such as GitHub Copilot, AWS Bedrock, or equivalent
• Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience aligning technical direction to strategic priorities, commercial outcomes, and production stability
• Experience in financial markets, post‑trade processing, OTC derivatives, or agentic AI systems would be highly regarded.
