Product Control Team Lead

Lead Product Control. Drive Performance. Partner with the Front Office.

We are partnering with a leading international oil trading business to appoint a Product Control Team Lead based in Hamburg, Germany .

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Product Control professional to take on a leadership role within a fast-paced trading environment. You'll lead a team responsible for delivering accurate daily P&L, valuation oversight, and robust financial controls while working closely with Trading, Risk, Finance, and senior leadership.

The Role

As Product Control Team Lead, you will:

• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing Product Control team.


• Oversee daily P&L reporting and analysis across physical and derivative oil trading activities.


• Ensure accurate valuation of trading positions and support Independent Price Verification (IPV) processes.


• Challenge and explain P&L movements, ensuring transparency and control.


• Partner closely with Front Office, Risk, Operations, and Finance to resolve valuation and reporting issues.


• Drive process improvements, automation, and enhancements to the Product Control framework.


• Support month-end close, financial reporting, and audit requirements.


• Maintain a strong control environment while supporting commercial decision-making.

About You

We're looking for someone with:

• Significant experience in Product Control within oil, energy, or commodity trading.


• Previous experience leading or mentoring a Product Control team.


• Strong understanding of physical and derivative commodity trading.


• Excellent knowledge of daily P&L, valuation methodologies, and financial controls.


• Strong analytical skills and the confidence to challenge traders and senior stakeholders constructively.


• Experience working with trading systems and advanced Excel skills; SQL, Python, Power BI, or ETRM platforms


• Excellent communication skills and fluent English. German is beneficial but not essential.
