Product Development Engineer

Responsibilities

• Work on research and development projects for medical devices in the field of optical 3D data acquisition for dental applications
• Develop, simulate, and optimize complex optical systems, including optical design, tolerance analyses, and stray light analysis
• Take ownership in concept phases, prototype implementation, and verification activities
• Develop and apply methods and algorithms for analysis, proof‑of‑concepts, specification development, and verification tasks
• Support the integration of optical systems into overall systems and collaborate closely with mechanical, electronics, and firmware/software teams
• Work in interdisciplinary project teams and take responsibility for defined work packages or subprojects regarding scope, timelines, and costs
• Support the transfer of development results into series production in collaboration with manufacturing, quality, and external partners
• Perform additional tasks as required

Requirements

• Completed university degree (Master’s or PhD) in a scientific or technical field such as physics, optics, electrical engineering, mechatronics, or a comparable discipline
• Several years of professional experience in the development of optical or opto‑electronic systems, ideally in an industrial product environment
• Strong knowledge of physical and technical optics and experience with optical design and simulation tools (e.g., Zemax, Code V, or similar)
• Knowledge in optical 3D metrology, machine vision, image processing, or signal processing
• Experience in characterizing image sensors (e.g., resolution, dynamic range, signal‑to‑noise ratio, sensitivity, e.g., according to EMVA 1288 standard)
• Programming skills for analysis and development tasks (e.g., Python, C/C++, OpenCV, STM32 MP2)
• High level of ownership, solution‑oriented mindset, and strong initiative
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary and international teams
• Willingness to travel occasionally (e.g., to suppliers)
• Very good German and English skills, both written and spoken
