About the Position

The professorship addresses communication technologies at the intersection of quantum and classical engineering systems. Its theoretical foundations draw on concepts and methods of both classical and quantum communications. The research will focus on technical aspects of quantum communication systems, including signal processing, coding and modulation, the role of entanglement, error detection and correction, cryptography and security, and information processing in integrated quantum computers and distributed quantum communication systems (the quantum internet).

Responsibilities

  • Lead original research in quantum communications and technical quantum communication systems.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues in the Systems Engineering and Physics departments and participate in the Center for Quantum Technologies.
  • Contribute actively to teaching core subjects in communication within the classical engineering sciences.
  • Offer specialized courses that align with research areas and help shape study programmes in systems engineering and quantum engineering.
  • Demonstrate strong potential for interdisciplinary research and international collaboration.

Qualifications

  • University degree in engineering or a related discipline in the natural sciences (physic­is preferred) and a doctorate (PhD or equivalent) with a record of high originality and significance.
  • Evidence of teaching at university level.
  • Outstanding track record in communications in quantum systems, including high‑quality publications.
  • Proven experience in applications within quantum technology and quantum engineering.
  • Strong track record of securing external research funding and leadership roles in collaborative research programmes or centres.
  • International experience and ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary settings.
  • Experience in academic administrative and committee work.
  • Commitment to innovative teaching concepts for bachelor, master and doctoral students, dedicated supervision of students and support for early career researchers.
