We are filling the following position at the earliest possible date on a temporary basis for the duration of the project "Forward genetics in T. kivui" for 3 years.

Responsibilities

  • Research in microbial genetics with the aim of obtaining a higher academic qualification (PhD)
  • Genome analysis: preparation of DNA and interpretation of sequencing results
  • Generate genetically modified strains of Thermoanaerobacter kivui with molecular biology and genetic techniques
  • Share scientific knowledge and research skills with students in the project
  • Data analysis and publication of scientific results

Qualifications

  • Completed university degree (state exam, diploma, master's, or comparable) in Biology or related field, with focus in Microbiology
  • Knowledge and practical experience in microbiology – culturing and characterizing bacteria
  • Experience with basic genetic techniques in bacteria (plasmids, transformation, colony screening)
  • Experience with advanced cloning techniques (CRISPR), cloning in non‑model organisms, or analysing genetic sequences is desirable
  • Experience culturing anaerobic microorganisms is desirable
  • Proficient written and spoken communication in English
  • Basic knowledge of German is desirableWillingness to work seriously and with commitment on a project aimed at one's own scientific qualification
  • Ability to work on schedule and communication skills for presenting research results
