Research Associate (m/f/o)

We are looking to appoint a Research Associate for a 4-year limited full-time contract, starting on .

The role is within the Institute for Autonomous Cyber-Physical Systems, Hamburg University of Technology, Harburger Schloßstraße 28, 21079 Hamburg. The position is part of the joint “SANMET project” (Self-configuring Acoustic Network in Concrete and Metal Structures) between TUTECH and the Institute for Autonomous Cyber-Physical Systems.

Responsibilities

• Identifying requirements and developing an overall concept
• Designing hardware, setting up and commissioning a software‑defined acoustic laboratory demonstrator
• Systematically investigating the main factors influencing transmission properties in metal structures
• Designing and scientifically investigating various modulation methods
• Conducting experiments using simulation, in the laboratory and under real conditions
• Presenting results at international conferences

Qualifications

• A completed university degree in a scientific subject, preferably in electrical engineering, computer science or a comparable field
• In‑depth knowledge of wireless communication (radio or acoustic)
• Experience programming embedded systems (microcontroller programming in C/C++)
• Understanding of hardware design using integrated circuits and circuit board design
• Good presentation and communication skills
• Proficiency in written and spoken German (at least B2)
• Ability and willingness to work as part of a team
• High reliability and a willingness to engage in ongoing professional and personal development
• Desirable experience with project management and versioning systems (Git) and hardware/software documentation (Doxygen, Javadoc or similar)
• Knowledge of propagation and characteristics of acoustic waves would be an advantage
