At the Chair of Differential and Personality Psychology / Psychological Assessment, we study conditions, processes of change, and consequences of personality, self-esteem, and psychological well-being across the lifespan. Our overarching interest lies in how and why people differ in their personality traits and developmental trajectories, how persons and their environments mutually influence each other across different timescales, and what role everyday experiences, life events, and contexts such as work, education, social relationships, and sociocultural or regional factors play in these processes.
Methodologically, we use a broad spectrum of longitudinal and multimethod approaches. These include intensive longitudinal data with experience sampling and ambulatory assessment, questionnaire and narrative data, and large longitudinal panel datasets. In this way, we connect short-term processes in everyday life with longer-term developmental trajectories and macrosocial contextual conditions.
