At the Chair of Differential and Personality Psychology / Psychological Assessment, we study conditions, processes of change, and consequences of personality, self-esteem, and psychological well-being across the lifespan. Our overarching interest lies in how and why people differ in their personality traits and developmental trajectories, how persons and their environments mutually influence each other across different timescales, and what role everyday experiences, life events, and contexts such as work, education, social relationships, and sociocultural or regional factors play in these processes.

Methodologically, we use a broad spectrum of longitudinal and multimethod approaches. These include intensive longitudinal data with experience sampling and ambulatory assessment, questionnaire and narrative data, and large longitudinal panel datasets. In this way, we connect short-term processes in everyday life with longer-term developmental trajectories and macrosocial contextual conditions.

Responsibilities:

  • Independent conceptualization, implementation, analysis, and publication of empirical studies according to transparent and reproducible research standards in the field of Differential and Personality Psychology / Psychological Assessment, with reference to the research profile of the chair
  • Contribution to the development and acquisition of externally funded projects as well as active participation in shaping the chair and in academic self-governance
  • Teaching amounting to 8 teaching hours per week per semester, particularly in Psychological Assessment in the polyvalent Bachelor’s degree programme Psychology (B.Sc.) and in the Master’s degree programme Psychology (M.Sc.) with a focus on Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy (currently bundled into a few different, predominantly seminar-based teaching formats)
  • Independent supervision of Bachelor’s and Master’s theses as well as participation in examinations

Requirements:

  • At the time of appointment, successfully completed university degree in psychology, social sciences, or health sciences with relevant qualification (Diplom, Master’s degree, or equivalent)
  • Successfully completed or far advanced doctorate in psychology or a related field with relevant methodological qualification
  • Research experience in Differential and Personality Psychology, Psychological Assessment, or a field relevant to the topics listed above
  • Sound knowledge of quantitative research methods and data analysis
  • Publication experience, preferably in international peer-reviewed journals
  • Experience with longitudinal, ambulatory, panel-based, and/or multimethod research designs
  • Experience in university teaching, preferably in the field of Psychological Assessment
  • Experience with Open Science practices
  • Experience in project coordination, research management, and/or the development of new assessment or research infrastructures
  • Interest in third-party funding initiatives, international collaboration, and actively contributing to the development of the chair
  • Very good English skills; German skills are an advantage, as teaching may take place in German or English depending on the teaching format
  • Practical experience in diagnostic, clinical, or counselling contexts is an advantage

We offer:

  • A committed, cooperative team and an appreciative working environment
  • Scope for developing individual research priorities, academic profile building, and active participation in shaping the chair
  • Opportunities to connect with existing research programmes as well as intensive longitudinal and panel-based datasets at the chair
  • Access to research infrastructure and resources for developing ambulatory, experimental, behavioural, or psychophysiological assessment approaches, also in the context of diagnostic and methodological research questions
  • A transparent and reproducible research culture with support for Open Science practices
  • Support with publications, third-party funding initiatives, and national and international networking, including with partners in Germany, the Netherlands, and the USA
  • Flexible working time and workplace arrangements, taking into account official duties and teaching obligations
  • An attractive university location with short distances, proximity to the Baltic Sea, and a direct train connection to Berlin
