The Institute of Political Science / Chair of Public Administration and Public Policy welcomes applications for the following position starting at the earliest possible date: Researcher in Public Policy (salary scale 13 TV-L, 75 %)

The fixed-term position is for a duration of 3 years.

The researcher will be part of the Chair of Public Administration and Public Policy (led by Prof. Dr. Steffen Eckhard).

This position comes with a teaching requirement of 3 contact hours (LVS) in the area of public policy at the Institute of Political Science. The language of instruction at the institute is English and/or German. Excellent knowledge of international academic literature and current developments are essential. A substantial focus related to one of the research areas of the working group is an asset. Prior teaching experience is an asset but not essential. As part of this position, it is possible to obtain a doctoral degree at Leibniz University Hannover.

Your role

  • Teaching requirement in the area of public policy (3 LVS; usually around three seminars annually).
  • Development of an independent research or doctoral project aligned to the substantive focus of the chair.
  • Actively engaging in the academic community, including at the research team and the Institute of Political Science at Leibniz University Hannover and at the newly established chair for public administration & public policy.
  • Presenting research findings at international conferences.
  • Participating in the regular meetings of the international members at the chair – usually in English.
  • (Co-)supervision of student theses.

Who are we looking for?

  • Prerequisite for employment is a Master’s degree in political science or in a similar discipline relevant to the position.
  • An entrepreneurial personality with a keen interest in public policy and very good knowledge of international academic literature in this field.
  • Strong skills in the application of quantitative and/or qualitative research methods, as well as in data collection and management; the candidate will be given opportunity to expand these skills.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills, along with a high degree of self-motivation and self-organization.
  • An international orientation and very good German and English language skills.
