Stellenbeschreibung:

The University of Kassel, a modern university with approximately 21,000 students, invites applications for a Scientist (m/f/d) to develop innovative methods for turbulence measurements using super‑long‑range scanning lidar (EG 13 TV‑H). The role is a fixed‑term, full‑time position (40 hours per week) starting on 1 June 2026 and continuing until 31 May 2029 under § 2 (2) WissZeitVG. The application deadline is 26 May 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Scientific collaboration on the UPGRADE project, a third‑party funded project for offshore wind conditions.
  • Develop models and algorithms to improve and correct turbulence measurements with lidar.
  • Analyze and process wind‑measurement data from various instruments.
  • Implement AI‑based, data‑driven models for lidar turbulence correction.
  • Simulate atmospheric turbulence using different modeling approaches.
  • Support measurement‑campaign implementation and fieldwork.
  • Determine uncertainty in wind‑speed and turbulence measurements with lidar.
  • Apply results to wind‑energy applications in accordance with IEC standards and relevant guidelines.
  • Publish research findings in scientific journals.

Requirements

  • University degree in engineering, geography, computer science, economics, mathematics, or natural sciences (minimum grade B), achieved by the start date.
  • Strong interest in energy meteorology, especially atmospheric turbulence.
  • Solid knowledge in meteorology, wind energy, flow simulation, turbulence research, signal processing, AI, mathematics, or physics.
  • Significant experience with scripting or programming (ideally Python).
  • Goal‑oriented, analytical, and collaborative with strong team spirit.
  • Independent, proactive, and passionate about interdisciplinary work.
  • English: very good command.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with data analysis and modeling in Python.
