Senior Commercial Finance Business Partner

In this role you will act as the strategic finance partner to R&D, manufacturing, and procurement leaders, shaping multi-million-euro business cases and guiding investment decisions. You’ll model and monitor key metrics (IRR, NPV, ROIC) to ensure profitable growth across R&D and manufacturing. You’ll bridge finance with engineering and supply chains to optimize capital allocation and supplier networks. • Lead financial appraisal of new initiatives and stress-test business cases for R&D, software features, and hardware platforms
• Model and track investment metrics (IRR, NPV, Payback Period, ROIC) to guide capital allocation across projects
• Assess CAPEX proposals for manufacturing scale-up (automation lines, testing facilities, tooling)
• Lead cross-functional evaluations to decide make vs buy with data-driven leadership-facing recommendations
• Embed financial discipline in product lifecycle and track BOM cost evolution from prototyping to full-scale production
• Collaborate with Procurement and Supply Chain to map supplier networks, analyze costs, and support cost-improvement workshops
• Manage inventory levels, obsolescence risk, and working capital for long-lead-time components
• Support defense bids with pricing/margin models and track program performance against baselines
• Develop and present commercial KPI dashboards (Gross Margin, Contribution Margin, Cost-to-Serve, VCO) to leadership

• Recognised professional finance qualification (CIMA, ACCA, ACA, or equivalent)
• Advanced Excel and financial modeling (DCF, IRR, NPV, scenario analysis)
• Proven track record in commercial finance or business partnering within high-tech manufacturing, aerospace, defense, or capital-intensive engineering
• Experience building and defending robust business cases for senior executives
• Familiarity with European defense procurement processes and government cost-plus contracts
• Ability to translate complex financial concepts for engineers and procurement managers and inspire cost/margin focus
• Excellent written and verbal communication in German & English
