Senior Director Cloud Technology

We are hiring a Senior Director Cloud Technology to lead the engineering, architecture, and evolution of a large-scale public cloud platform. Reporting directly to the board, even the CEO!!

This is a deeply technical leadership role , requiring a hands-on cloud expert who has built and scaled cloud infrastructure from the ground up. You will lead a large engineering organization and take full accountability for delivering a high-performance, secure, and scalable cloud platform.

Scope of Responsibility

You will own the full cloud technology stack, including:

• Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS)
• Compute (VMs, bare metal, GPUs, dedicated CPUs)
• Networking (IPv4/IPv6, VLANs, virtual networks)
• Storage (block, file, object storage)
• Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS)
• Managed databases and data platforms

Key Responsibilities

Technology Leadership

• Define and execute the cloud platform’s technology strategy and architecture
• Drive engineering excellence across all layers of the stack
• Lead large-scale system design and platform evolution
• Own delivery, reliability, scalability, and performance of cloud services
• Ensure compliance with security and regulatory standards
• Take executive ownership of incident, change, and problem management

Organizational Leadership

• Lead and scale an engineering organization of ~150 people
• Build strong leadership teams and develop senior technical talent
• Foster a high-performance, accountable engineering culture

Business & Financial Ownership

• Manage budgets, investments, and cost structures
• Align technology execution with business growth targets (€150–200M scale)
• Partner with Product, Sales, Operations, and Security leadership

Candidate Profile

Technical Expertise (Essential)

• Strong background in software engineering with hands‑on coding experience
• Deep knowledge of cloud infrastructure and distributed systems
• Experience building cloud platforms internally (not just operating hyperscalers)
• Strong understanding of bare‑metal infrastructure , networking, storage, and virtualization

Leadership Experience

• 10+ years in software engineering
• 8+ years leading large engineering organizations
• Proven experience managing 150+ engineers with full accountability
• Track record of delivering complex, mission‑critical platforms

Professional Strengths

• Ability to operate at both strategic and deeply technical levels
• Strong architectural thinking and engineering judgment
• High ownership mindset with accountability for outcomes
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Education & Language

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• Fluent English required; German is a strong plus
