Reporting to the Head of Global External Innovation & Business Development (EI&BD), this role is embedded within the EI&BD function and plays a central role in advancing our global partnering strategy. You will contribute to and, based on experience, lead licensing transactions within a highly collaborative, cross-functional team environment, where successful deal-making is driven by collective expertise and aligned execution.
The position’s main responsibilities include, without being limited to, the following:
- Work closely within the Global External Innovation & Business Development team to identify, assess, and advance in- and out-licensing opportunities.
- Contribute across the full licensing lifecycle, from opportunity evaluation (scientific, strategic, and commercial) to alliance establishment and execution of transactions.
- Lead or support licensing transactions depending on experience level, with the opportunity to progressively take ownership of more complex deals.
- Drive the contracting workstream: structure, draft, review, and negotiate non-binding term sheets (NBTS) and definitive agreements in close
- collaboration with EI&BD colleagues, internal stakeholders in particular Legal, IP and Finance, and external Legal partners.
- Leverage strong scientific understanding (interest) to interpret preclinical and clinical data, support opportunity valuation, and strengthen negotiation positions with evidence-based insights.
- Anticipate and resolve contract-related challenges by aligning internal cross-functional teams and external partners toward pragmatic solutions.
- Monitor contractual obligations, milestones, and governance processes; support renewals, amendments, and lifecycle management of agreements.
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure transparency of contract status and key terms.
- Present and communicate key contract-related information to stakeholders and governance bodies.
- Collaborate with Global Commercial New Product and Finance teams to support robust business case development.
YOUR EXPERTISE AND QUALIFICATION FROM OUR PERSPECTIVE
Ideally, the position requires an advanced degree in Life Sciences (e.g., PhD, PharmD, MD, MSc) with relevant experience in licensing and contracting within Pharma or Biotech.
We believe, that the successful job holder should have the following capabilities:
- Proven experience in in- and/or out-licensing transactions across different development stages, with a solid understanding of pharmaceutical deal structures.
- Strong scientific curiosity and understanding are essential; enabling you to critically evaluate assets and actively contribute to negotiations grounded in data, mechanism-based reasoning and company fit.
- Experience in contract drafting, structuring, and negotiation, with a clear understanding of legal frameworks and commercial implications.
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively within cross-functional, matrixed team environments; deal-making is viewed as a team-driven process requiring alignment, trust, and shared accountability.
- Highly engaged team player with a collaborative mindset, strong interpersonal skills, and a collective drive to succeed and “win” as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple parallel workstreams.
- Willingness to travel internationally as required (max. 25%).

- Excellent communication and presentation skills in English (written and spoken), German language is beneficial.
