Role Description The Senior Patent Attorney – Chemistry & Pharma will provide expert advice and representation in all aspects of patent law relating to chemical and pharmaceutical technologies. This full-time, on-site role in the Greater Munich Metropolitan Area involves drafting and prosecuting patent applications, managing patent portfolios, and conducting patentability assessments and freedom-to-operate analyses. The role includes handling opposition and appeal proceedings before the European Patent Office, supporting due diligence projects, involvement in litation projects and advising clients on IP strategy and risk management. The Senior Patent Attorney will collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams and international colleagues, mentor junior professionals, and contribute to client development and relationship management.

Qualifications

  • Strong expertise in patent drafting and prosecution, including Patent Applications and Patent Preparation skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of Patent Law and Patentability assessment in the fields of chemistry and pharmaceuticals.
  • Experience conducting IP-related Due Diligence and risk analyses for transactions or strategic projects.
  • Qualified European Patent Attorney (or equivalent national qualification), with several years of post-qualification experience in chemistry/pharma.
  • Experience with contentious proceedings, e.g. opposition and litigation (national and/or UPC).
  • Advanced degree in chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, or a closely related discipline.
  • Proven track record in EPO opposition and appeal work, and in managing complex patent portfolios.
  • Excellent analytical, written, and oral communication skills in English and German language.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary and international teams, and to mentor less experienced colleagues.
