Role (24-month fixed term contract)

Senior Scientist Enzyme Technology – You will be part of an exciting international R&D and business environment, working with cutting edge technologies and a broad portfolio of diverse projects. This is an important senior position in our global R&D with a high level of independence and opportunity for development.

Your Responsibilities

  • Play a key role in the characterization of our enzymes, thereby advancing our knowledge of enzyme behaviour in the final industrial application (particularly in the Food industry)
  • Develop application relevant assays, both for in-depth characterization and high throughput screening with link to application
  • Be responsible for building and strengthening the enzyme application expertise inside R&D and work closely together with our Application Development Teams
  • Report directly to the Head of Protein Chemistry Germany and have the opportunity to actively shape the discipline
  • Be a key stakeholder in cross-functional R&D projects, including planning, coordination and alignment with other R&D team members as well as presentation of results to internal and external stakeholders
  • This is a hands-on role with the majority of your time spent in the lab
  • The position is located in Darmstadt, Germany. You will interface with global R&D teams located in Germany and in Finland, as well as other business functions (Application Development, Manufacturing, Business)

About You

  • Scientific education and degree (PhD) and a proven track record in biochemistry, application science, or equivalent
  • Clear experience in the field of industrial enzymes (ideally for Food applications) either through prior industry or postdoc positions
  • Passion for understanding and using enzymes in industrial applications to develop new innovative enzyme solutions for customers
  • Experience in enzyme kinetics, development of analytical methods including application relevant assays and screens
  • Deep understanding of protein structure-function relationships (especially of carbohydrate-degrading enzymes) and the ability to translate this into application know-how
  • Experience in fibre chemistry and analytics is a plus
  • Hands-on attitude combined with a drive for results
  • True team player, leading by example
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and capabilities (fluent in English; written and spoken. German and Finish is a plus)
