Staff Backend Engineer (.NET) (f/m/d)

In this role you will architect and develop scalable, reliable backend systems in a modern cloud-native environment, shaping long-term platform decisions and mentoring engineers. You’ll drive technical excellence, explore AI-enabled improvements, and build internal tooling to empower teams. The role emphasizes observability, on-call reliability, and cross-functional collaboration to advance Apaleo’s open, AI-powered hospitality platform. You’ll work in a fast-growing scale-up culture with ownership and impact from day one.

• Architect and develop scalable backend systems with a focus on long-term impact
• Lead design discussions and champion architectural decisions
• Mentor engineers and drive technical excellence
• Identify opportunities for innovation, system evolution, and AI/automation improvements
• Build and maintain internal tools and infra (AWS, Terraform)
• Ensure high platform availability through observability and best practices
• Participate in on-call rotations and incident resolution

• 8+ years backend development experience with senior/lead roles
• Expert-level knowledge of C# (.NET 8+) and strong PostgreSQL experience
• Experience designing and scaling distributed systems in cloud-native environments (AWS preferred)
• Proficiency with containers and IaC (Docker, ECS, Kubernetes, Terraform)
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor AI, ChatGPT, Amazon CodeWhisperer)
• Growth mindset and curiosity about AI/automation to accelerate development and reduce toil
• Strong collaboration and communication skills; ability to present new tech to cross-functional teams
• Pragmatic approach to building vs leveraging AI tools
• Experience with event-driven systems and streaming (Kafka a plus)
