Major Duties

As a Supervisory Sanctuary Superintendent, you will perform the following duties: develop and implement site-based sanctuary program functions and collaborate with government and non‑government entities and stakeholders in support of sanctuary programs and policies; direct the day‑to‑day implementation and execution of the organization’s administrative and financial operations, to include multiyear and longer budget and agreements; carry out policies and purposes of the National Marine Sanctuaries Act, relevant presidential proclamations, executive orders, and oversee development of plans and programs for both short and long time frames to conserve, protect, enhance, restore, investigate, and manage sanctuary resources through research and outreach; exercise supervisory authority over site-based sanctuary program staff and manage the human resources functions and staffing planning for programs. This position will be filled under the DOC Alternative Personnel System (CAPS). Under CAPS, positions are classified by career, pay plan, and pay band. The ZA‑4 is equivalent to the GS‑13/14.

Position Requirements

Possess a federal motor vehicle operation requirement; credential and physical requirements may apply; scuba certification may be required.

Conditions of Employment

Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license to operate a government vehicle; may require participation in fieldwork, including walking and working for several hours along unpaved shorelines or on research vessels in the marine offshore environment; may require standing for long periods, bending/stooping, and lifting up to 40 lbs. unassisted.
