Sustainability Manager - Chemicals

Role

As a Sustainability Manager focusing on expertise and delivery, you’ll manage complex projects and apply your deep subject matter expertise in chemicals alongside advanced consulting skills. You’ll provide strategic guidance to clients while ensuring project delivery is rigorous, insightful, actionable, and aligned with their objectives.

You’ll collaborate with peers, experienced consultants and junior colleagues to deliver impactful work—primarily in your field of expertise, while occasionally contributing to broader projects. You’ll support business development by identifying opportunities, nurturing relationships with key accounts, and co‑creating proposals.

You’ll also mentor junior colleagues and may progressively take on line‑management responsibilities to support their growth and development.

Responsibilities

  • Manage complex sustainability projects within the chemicals sector.
  • Deliver strategic guidance and actionable insights to clients.
  • Collaborate across teams—consultants, junior staff, and clients—to ensure rigorous project delivery.
  • Identify and nurture business development opportunities and key client relationships.
  • Mentor junior colleagues and, over time, take on line‑management duties.

Qualifications

  • 4–8+ years of relevant work experience in sustainability and/or consulting.
  • Deep knowledge of sustainability frameworks and subject matter expertise in the chemicals industry, including Basic (Commodity) Chemicals, Specialty Chemicals, Agrochemicals, and Petrochemicals.
  • Proven experience in project management.
  • Solid proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Advanced degree (Master’s or higher) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, Engineering, Business, Economics, or related field.
  • Strong communication skills in German (C1 or above required) and English.
  • Intellectually curious, science‑based mindset, and motivation to learn and grow.
  • Teamwork orientation with the ability to coach, teach, and mentor team members.
  • Confidence in using generative AI tools while maintaining a critical mindset.

Preferred (What You Might Also Bring)

  • Additional knowledge in corporate sustainability topics beyond your core expertise.
  • Knowledge of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Footprinting.
  • Programming skills (Python, MATLAB, ArcGIS) and motivation to develop them further.
  • Previous experience in one or several of the industries where Quantis’ major clients operate:

As you manage projects and provide subject matter expertise, you’ll be ready to lead large teams to deliver complex projects, serving as the primary contact and trusted advisor for clients. The next step will be Sustainability Principal—a recognized expert role where you’ll play a major role in thought leadership and mentoring the next generation of consultants.

Job Details

  • Contract: Permanent
  • Location: Berlin, Germany preferred; Munich also considered. You will be expected to work at the client’s office and/or travel there at times.
  • Optimal start date: As soon as possible
  • Collaboration with other Quantis branches via web‑conference.
  • Ability to travel occasionally.
