The Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology is a research institute of the Max Planck Society. It was founded in 1992 in the State of Bremen and employs around 200 staff members. In close collaboration with numerous university and non‑university research institutions, we explore the diversity and function of microorganisms in the ocean and their interactions with their environment. Scientists from all over the world, engineers, technicians and administrative staff together make an important contribution to global marine and environmental research.

In the Department of Chemical Ecology we are searching for a

Technical Assistant / Technician (f/m/d) Chemical Ecology

Your responsibilities:

  • Assist with laboratory management (e.g., ordering, training of students)
  • Sample extractions for metabolites and DNA/RNA
  • Sample preparation for isotope analyses and maintenance of mass spectrometers
  • Chemical analyses using gas chromatography and high-pressure liquid chromatography
  • Logistics and participation of sea‑going expeditions as well as fieldwork in coastal areas

Your profile:

  • Training as a chemical, biological or medical technician or an equivalent training
  • Experience in mass spectrometry and chemical analyses as well as good computer skills
  • Good knowledge of the German and English language (written and spoken)

What we offer:

This position is offered for 50 months. Continuation beyond the initial term may be possible, but will depend on satisfactory performance, applicable legal requirements, and the availability of funding.

You will have a high degree of autonomy and creative freedom, and we will promote your further education, e.g. within the framework of external courses and certifications.
