The Core Facility Organoids is a central service and research infrastructure dedicated to the establishment, expansion, biobanking, quality control, and functional characterization of patient-derived organoid models. These three-dimensional cultures are generated from human tumor and non-tumor tissues and closely reflect key biological features of the original patient material.

Our facility supports translational reearch projects across the Medical Faculty and beyond, with a particular focus on patient-dericed organoid models, living biobanking, and functional assays. The successful canditate will become part of a small, highly motivated team working at the interface of research, clinical translation, and core facility service.

The position offers close interaction with the institute of the Care Facility Head, Prof. Alexander Kleger, namely the Institute of Molecular Oncology and Stem Cell Biology (IMOS; It is also embedded in the organoid-focused graduate research training programme Org-Boost ( providing excellent opportunities for collaborative work and direct access to cutting-edge organoid-based research.

Your tasks:

  • Establishment, expansion, maintenance, and cryopreservation of patient-derived organoid cultures from primary human material
  • Preparation and execution of organoid-based assays, including drug screening and viability/toxicity readouts
  • Routine preparation of media, reagents, plates, and assy materials
  • Documentation of sample processing, culture status, QC steps, experimental workflows, and biobanking inventory

Your profile:

  • Completed vocational training as a BTA/MTA, biotechnology assistant, or comparable qualification; alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant life-science field. (A Master’s degree or PhD is not required.)
  • Experience in mammalian and sterile cell culture; experience with 3D models, organoids, spheroids, or primary human material is an advantage.
  • Practical experience with viability/toxicity assays, molecular biology techniques, or structured sample documentation is welcome.
  • A careful, reliable, well-organized, and proactive working style, with the ability to follow SOPs and support troubleshooting of routine experimental workflows.
  • Good communication skills, good written and spoken English, and willingness to work with human patient-derived material; German language skills are an advantage.

Previous experience with organoid cultures is welcome but not mandatory. Thorough training will be provided at the beginning.
