COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST

Duties / Responsibilities

Systems Control/Tech Control Technicians operate, monitor, secure and control the physical, data link, network and transport layers of the network, perform circuit restoration actions, and apply quality control and performance standards.

• Perform circuit management actions, accomplish reporting, tracking, and monitoring procedures, and perform trend analysis.
• Request and schedule authorized service interruptions (ASI) and maintain a Master Station Log.
• Act as a node site coordinator to DISA and perform required circuit actions.
• Administer the Facility Circuit Information Tracking (FACIT) database and key/rekey COMSEC devices.
• Provide ITSM support, including incident/problem, change, service request, and knowledge‑management support.
• Support systems notices, authorized service interruptions (ASI), and scheduled/unscheduled outages.
• Maintain DoWD M/8140 IAT II certification and other relevant computing‑environment certifications.

Minimum / General Experience

This position requires a minimum of six years of experience, of which at least four years must be specialized experience in communications software, hardware or network specialty. The general experience includes all aspects of communication networks.

Specialized Experience

Communications hardware experience includes installing, testing, and operating network and computer (host) communication equipment (e.g., switches, modems, controllers, terminals, and multiplexers). Responsibilities also include implementing hardware and electrical standards, testing equipment, monitoring, and analyzing results.

Minimum Education / Experience

A bachelor’s degree in computer science/systems, information system/technology, engineering, software engineering/programming, or a related field, plus four years of specialized experience. A master’s degree in a related field and three years of specialized experience is acceptable. No degree but eight years of specialized experience may also be considered.

Certifications / Training (Desired)

• DoW M IAT Level II Certification
• DISA Node Site Training

Clearance: Secret

Additional Requirements (Germany / Italy)

• Germany: Bachelor’s degree & three years recent specialized experience; or Associate’s degree & seven years recent specialized experience; or no degree & eleven years recent specialized experience.
• Italy: Bachelor’s degree & three years recent specialized experience; or Associate’s degree & seven years recent specialized experience; or no degree & eleven years recent specialized experience.

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $80,750 - $109,250, based on experience and geographic location. Total compensation for international positions may include allowances, premium uplifts, and relocation or transportation benefits as appropriate.
