Job Overview

As a Technical Manager Mechatronics, you will serve as the crucial interface between project management, internal development teams, and external partners. Acting as a technical project manager, you will lead the planning, coordination, and control of multidisciplinary development tasks for complex defense systems and subsystems. This role is ideal for professionals with a strong technical background in mechatronics or systems engineering and proven experience in managing development projects across hardware and software domains. You will contribute from the bid phase through to system integration, testing, and customer acceptance, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to the highest technical standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical development and integration of systems and subsystems across land, air, sea, and cyber domains.
  • Manage technical project execution from proposal through delivery, including resource and schedule planning, budgeting, and risk management.
  • Drive the requirements analysis, specification creation, and system architecture planning in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate cross‑functional engineering teams including sensory, electrical, mechanical, and software departments.
  • Oversee system integration, fault analysis, and system‑level testing activities.
  • Prepare and present technical proposals and decision documents for internal and customer‑facing stakeholders.
  • Conduct and participate in technical reviews, audits, and acceptance tests.
  • Manage suppliers, subcontractors, and external partners, ensuring compliance with technical and contractual requirements.
  • Support system qualification efforts, including environmental, EMC, and functional safety certifications.
  • Report on technical progress, milestones, and deliverables to project management and customers.
  • Play a key role in technical risk and claim management, supporting make‑or‑buy decisions and mitigation planning.

Must‑Have Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Degree in Engineering (e.g. Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering) or equivalent.
  • Several years of experience in technical project management or technical leadership in a development context.
  • Strong understanding of development processes across embedded systems, electronics, mechanics, and sensors.

Technical Skills

  • Solid knowledge of mechatronic systems, system integration, and multidisciplinary engineering environments.
  • Experience in requirements management, system specification, and test planning.
  • Familiarity with tools and standards in project management, systems engineering, and defense development (e.g., V‑model, DOORS, MS Project, etc.).

Project & Leadership Skills

  • Proven ability to plan and coordinate complex development projects, track milestones, manage budgets, and ensure quality.
  • Experience working across interdisciplinary teams and with external stakeholders (customers, suppliers, partners).
  • High degree of initiative, responsibility, and a solution‑oriented mindset.

Language & Mobility

  • Business fluent in German and English (written and spoken).
  • Willingness to travel internationally as required by the project.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice To Have)

  • Experience in the defense industry or related high‑complexity sectors.
  • Familiarity with bidding and proposal processes in defense contracts.
  • Certification in Project Management (e.g., IPMA, PMP) is a plus.
