W2 professorship in Experimental Medical Biophysics

Overview

Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf – Department Dezernat Personal Research Field Physics – invites applications for a W3 or W2 professorship in Experimental Medical Biophysics (full‑time, permanent, starting 1 April 2027).

Responsibilities

• Lead basic research in experimental medical biophysics focusing on areas such as mechanobiology, intra‑ and inter‑cellular light field influences, phase transitions in living systems, transport processes through biological membranes, and cell‑tissue growth.
• Collaborate with research groups in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine.
• Teach courses in experimental physics, experimental biophysics or experimental medical physics within the medical physics and physics degree programs.
• Participate in at least one of the Department’s collaborative research programs and strengthen the initiatives planned in the aforementioned topics.
• Contribute to coordinated research programs of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. and an established research record (R3) in experimental biophysics or related fields.
• Proven record of publications in internationally renowned journals.
• Demonstrated ability to secure competitive external funding (≥ €300 000 for the W2 professorship and ≥ €750 000 for the W3 professorship over the past five years).
• Teaching experience in experimental physics and experimental biophysics or experimental medical physics.
• For the W3 professorship, additional experience in experimental biophysics is required.
