    This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of Hugging Face. We are currently looking for a Data Technical Architect, MongoDB Sharding in United States.

    In this role, you will serve as a key technical leader driving the design, scaling, and optimization of a complex MongoDB environment. You will work hands-on with engineering teams to build robust data architectures, improve performance, and guide best practices for database operations. Beyond strategy, you’ll contribute directly to implementation—making targeted changes to application code, modeling schemas, and leading sharding initiatives. This position is ideal for someone passionate about tackling large-scale database challenges while enabling teams to deliver fast, reliable, and innovative solutions. You will also play a critical role in fostering collaboration across teams and ensuring the data layer evolves in line with long-term product goals.

    Accountabilities:

    • Collaborate with engineering and product teams to design and evolve scalable, reliable, and high-performing MongoDB architectures.
    • Implement and optimize sharding strategies, schema design, and query performance to support growing data needs.
    • Troubleshoot complex database issues, lead root cause analyses, and provide solutions for production incidents.
    • Contribute directly to application codebases, adjusting queries and data access layers to support architectural evolution.
    • Define, document, and promote best practices for database usage, while developing automation and tools to enhance developer productivity.
    • Act as the subject matter expert on MongoDB internals and data layer optimization across engineering teams.

    Requirements

    • 4+ years of experience in data engineering or architecture, with a strong focus on MongoDB.
    • Proven hands-on experience implementing MongoDB sharding in production, with an ability to evaluate and explain trade-offs.
    • Strong coding proficiency in a modern programming language (Typescript/Node.js preferred) with application-level database integration experience.
    • Deep practical knowledge of MongoDB internals, including indexing, replication, aggregation, and storage engines.
    • Strong collaboration skills and experience working within cross-functional teams.
    • Excellent written and asynchronous communication, with the ability to lead technical discussions and build consensus.
    • Bonus skills: experience with IaC tools like Terraform/Pulumi, MongoDB Atlas, PostgreSQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, or large-scale migration projects.
