Overview

GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt operates one of the leading particle accelerators for science. Currently, the new FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) one of the world\'s largest research projects, is being built in international cooperation. GSI and FAIR offer the opportunity to work in this international environment with a team of employees committed to world-class science.

For the department Linac (LIN) we are looking for a Physicist or Engineer (all genders) – Reference: – to participate in development of the superconducting linear accelerator HELIAC (HElmholtz LInear ACcelerator). Currently at GSI the first cryogenic module of HELIAC is in test operation, further two cryogenic modules are in manufacturing phase.

Your tasks

• Procurement and Supervision of manufacturing of components and cryostat for further cryogenic modules
• Cryogenic testing of RF cavities, including the development of automated control for the subatmospheric helium compressor
• Participation in tests with first cryogenic module
• Participation in beam times

Your qualifications and skills

• University Degree in physics or engineering sciences (M.Sc./M.Eng.) or comparable qualification
• Ability and interest to work with mechanical systems and accelerator installations
• Knowledge in one or more of these fields: cryogenic, vacuum technology, programming, industrial PLC
• Team-oriented and safe working methods
• Good language skills in English and German

Desirable qualifications and skills

• Experience in Python programming
• Experience with analog and digital electronics
